Soupgiant / Big Red Tin

When redesigning our web site, we decided to separate our business, Soupgiant, from our blog, Big Red Tin. The full reasons for doing so are detailed on Big Red Tin, but it comes down to giving each audience what they want.

The design of the two sites were consciously similar to make it clear they are part of the same network.

Selector Blog / Selector Resources

Architecture Media were expanding their Selector family of sites to include a blog and an index of resources. Each of these sites includes micro-sites with specific content for Australian or New Zealand audiences depending on their location.

Working with a design from Reuten, Soupgiant developed the sites in WordPress MU to reduce upgrade times. This has the added advantage of allowing additional regions to be added without having to access the server.

Mel Buttle

Comedian Mel Buttle wanted a website that reflected and extended her onstage persona. A highly influential Twitter user in Australia, she wanted to incorporate that into her wider online presence. As a working comedian, a gig guide was another important feature of the site.

Working with a design from Zepol, Soupgiant developed the site in WordPress, using plugins for the twitter, podcasting and gig guide functionality.

Rural Funds Management

Soupgiant developed three CSS templates for Rural Funds Management for use by their in-house team. Developed in conjunction with Zepol and Nose To Tail.

Stott’s College

Established in 1883, Stott’s College is one of the oldest private colleges in Australia, their website provides information for current and prospective students.

Working with designs from Zepol and Nose to Tail, Soupgiant coded the CMS (WordPress), JavaScript, CSS and HTML. The site takes full advantage of WordPress’ CMS features.

Julia Morris

Working from a design by Zepol, Soupgiant’s role was to code the WordPress theme, JavaScript, CSS and xHTML.

The brief for the site was to fit Julia?s personality and include plenty of bling to liven up the content, each page on the site uses a custom header.

The site makes use of WordPress, jQuery and a number of plugins for each.

M1 Upgrade

The website already existed for the M1 upgrade but, much like the road itself, it is in a state of constant improvement.

The client requested a header that scrolled through various photos of the motorway, split in half and refreshing at different intervals. They also did not want to use Flash for the header. Josh Kinal, working with DDSN interactive, created Javascript functions to handle this animation.

Additionally, the site required streaming flash video (like YouTube but not branded) to show animated models of the finished upgrade. The client provided the video on DVD and Josh Kinal created a self-contained flash video for inclusion.

Home Economics Victoria

Home Economics Victoria underwent a rebranding and needed an updated website.

External studio, Savanah Design, supplied the design, images and wireframes.

They required a fast turn around, creating a website based on the images and diagrams they provided.

Josh Kinal, then as part of DDSN interactive, was charged with creating a semantically coded front-end based on the design. There was provided in a more traditional style and the challenge lay in replicating it with css and working with asp.net (c#) to provide semantic html to the front-end.

Taxpayers Australia

A major redesign and overhaul of an existing website, including shopping cart and member area.

This site used DDSN’s CM3 content management system. This job involved building templates for the CMS, xHTML and CSS development within the DDSN/CM3 framework . Also a number of modules needed to be upgraded to suit the updated site and CMS upgrade.
